He optimized the Gilded Age ideal of the self-made man, rising from pooverty to become one of the wealthiest individuals in the hitory of the world.

Used the New Technologies, such as the Bessemer Blast Furnace, to expand his steel company.
The Bessemer Process was the first inexpensive industrial process for the mass-production of steel from molten pig iron prior to the open hearth furnace. The key principle is removal of impurities from the iron by oxidation with air.
