The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Anyway, these efforts failed to stop the process that led to the First World War. Andrew Carnegie commissioned the president of Columbia University, Republican politician Nicholas M. Butler, to create a European section of the Paris-based Foundation. Carnegie died in 1919 after having sold its steel and banker JP Morgan in 1925, Butler succeeded Root as general manager. The Carnegie Foundation campaigned for signing the Kellogg-Briand Pact against the war and Butler obtained the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.​
