Education Impact
The feeling and interest in the arts, books, music, learning and technical education were great virtues American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie-Industrial. That's why his great ideal allowed him to begin to establish trust funds for the betterment of mankind. The first revenues were free to public libraries; about 3,000 were created around the world. One of his first works was the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh in 1895, which houses an art gallery, a museum of natural history and a music room.
The creation of foundations, began with the progress of the teaching that was created to provide pensions for teachers unuversitarios. Established the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and search for the abolition of war. Some institutions are recognized around the world. Some of those are: Carnegie Hall - New York, Carnegie Science Center, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Institute of Pittsbirgh, Carnegie Institute of Washington, Endowment for International Peace, Carnegie Mellon University, Foundation of Advancement of Teaching, among others.
In all, Carnegie's benefactions totaled $350 million, $288 million going to the United States and $62 million to Britain and the British Empire. The continuation of his broad interests was put under the general charge of the Carnegie Corporation, with an endowment of $125 million. Carnegie died on Aug. 11, 1919, at his summer home near Lenox, Mass.
